Our teacher Pavitra from K.P.S Bidkalkatte shares her views on teaching and lists a couple of qualities required to be a good teacher.
Here is what she says about teaching, ‘For me teaching vocation is one of the purest forms of profession and it is a great joy for me to be with kids.’
Being a Role Model
She talks about being a role model for her students and says,’ A teacher’s job is not just to teach students but to also make them understand the concepts and help them adopt them in life.’
She adds,’ The behavior and punctuality of the students begins with the teachers,therefore teachers must be punctual in their job and have good time sense as well.’
No Discrimination towards Students:
She believes that a good teacher considers all students equally and there should not be discrimination between the students. Pavitra lives true to this as she does not treat the slow learners differently;rather adopts an encouraging tone so that all the students learn and explore things on their own.
Make Things Interesting:
To make things interesting in the class she says,’Teachers must conduct interactive sessions with students which helps students to concentrate well in their class and also understand the concepts easily.’ She conducts various activities like group discussion to improve their communication skills and leadership qualities.
Going the Extra Mile
Pavitra cares for her students. She does not wait for the regular tests and exams to rate her students. She is proactive and conducts a test after every chapter to see how her students fare. She says, ‘ Tests help me understand how much students have understood and their hold on the subject.’ ‘ I also meet up parents every month if I feel the need for improvement,’ she adds further.
A good teacher can inspire hope,ignite the imagination and instill a love of learning. Pavitra tries to embody this truly in all her teaching activities.
